The College of Education at Southeastern Michigan University is committed to promoting global education perspectives and cross-cultural teaching. Our curriculum explores international approaches to education and encourages students to engage in cross-cultural teaching experiences through study abroad programs and collaborations with educators from around the world. This global perspective equips students to excel in diverse educational settings.
The course presents a model of teaching, the goals of instruction, how teaching is done in an era of standards and accountability, planning for e-learning, teaching history, basic teacher instructional methods and how classroom has to be managed in order to ensure that students worldwide could acquire quality education.
This course provides an overview of online learning. The course presents various methods through which students get online education and how people can learn from E-Courses.
The course emphasizes the importance of education for handicapped children and how teachers have to deal with them to provide quality education. The course covers various techniques used by teachers in learning process of special children.
Central to the course are a variety of broad topics demonstrating the positive contribution that a good school-community relations plan has upon student achievement. The positive impact on student achievement that results from the development of a common school-community culture is stressed.
The course examines multicultural education through a focus on the historical, sociological, and philosophical foundations of education. Special emphasis is placed on the role of ethnicity in the development of the United States and its education system.
The course presents overview of major state and federal laws affecting the operation and management of special education programs in public schools. The content of this course emphasizes on procedural and substantive rights of children with disabling conditions.
The course examines the theories and practices of ongoing, dynamic assessment strategies used with children and youth, particularly those identified with disabilities. Strong emphasis will be placed on assessment and the involvement of the families in this process and respect for cultural and familial variations.
The course introduces you to the learning and teaching process of special students. The course explores strategies to encourage positive classroom behavior and coordinating classroom learning environment.
The course provides you an introduction to teaching strategies and curriculum adaptations to include children who have disabilities in 0-5 early childhood educational settings. An overview of current early childhood intervention includes issues such as risk determinants, disability characteristics, medical issues and assistive technology.
The course will provide you with descriptions and applications of methods and strategies for teaching students with mild and moderate disabilities in need of an adapted curriculum.
